Result: Gumley beat Arnesby by 2 wickets

Arnesby: L to R: Wes Sykes, George Lees, Steve Dunn, Mike Brown, Norman Moltu, John Jones, Dave Matthews, Dave Hogg (capt).
Not in picture: Martin Greenwood, Pete Turner, Milan Duric.

A confident Arnesby team won the toss and went into bat to try and take advantage of a good batting wicket.

A solid start with Norman Moltu (29), David Hogg (35) and Wes Sykes (31) looked to set Arnesby up for a high score, but tighter Gumley bowling and good fielding only saw Dave Matthews and Steve Dunn get into double figures. Arnesby were all out for 146, 10 overs short of their full allocation. Dennis Pickering did most damage with 3 wickets for 15 runs off 4 overs.

With little runs to play with Arnesby needed tight bowling and good fielding to stand any chance. Excellent bowling from George Lees and Norman Moltu kept the Gumley run rate under control. Dave Hogg got the important wicket of Ben Pickering for 37 with the help of Steve Dunn who brilliantly took a steepling catch. Arnesby toiled away and got within two wickets of victory, but Dennis (30) and Peter Pickering (4) both not out steered Gumley to victory with 12 over to spare. Best of the bowling came from Dave Hogg 2 for 5 off three overs, Norman Moltu 3 for 17 off 8 overs and Martin Greenwood 2 for 15 off two overs.

This ended up being a day for the bowlers and a closer match than expected. Perhaps the difference between the two teams in the end was the 6 missed catches by Arnesby.
