Arnesby
met Bruntingthorpe for the first time in a cricket match, at least
in recent times. Phil Baker led his willing team with unknown
talent onto the Gumley field after putting Arnesby into bat.
Bruntingthorpe managed an early breakthrough to bowl Alex Dunn,
and trapped a free scoring Dave Matthews for 33, putting Arnesby
on 62-2. Then Wes Sykes took charge and took his chances to score
a match winning century. He graciously retired on reaching 100,
and only Tom Walkinshaw made any further significant contribution
to the Arnesby cause with an excellent 30. Arnesby made 202 off
their 40 overs. Phil Baker was the pick of the Bruntingthorpe
bowling with 2 wickets for 17 runs off 6 overs.
In reply Bruntingthorpe made 140 all out. A spectacular and speedy
51 by C Smith gave Bruntingthorpe a great start and were on track
after 20 overs, but little support was forthcoming until guest
Aussie Nick Harridge weighed in with a solid 17 and P Rushin with
22 not out.
The best bowling figures of the day came from Dave Matthews at
3 wickets for only 1 run off 3 overs.
Post match analysis was conducted in The Plough where Bruntingthrope
concluded they want to play more.
Look out Shearsby!
