It
has been a special sporting year for the 52 pupils of Arnesby Primary
School. The school's year-six boys made a great start to the sporting year by finishing second team overall in the Leicestershire Schools Cross-Country League races with Mark Lomasney the joint individual winner. The school's six-a-side football team made a winning start to the South Leicestershire Small. Schools League, eventually finishing unbeaten and winning the playoff final 2-1 against Dunton Bassett. The squad had just enough players to take part in the 11-a- side County Rice Bowl - the first time the school has ever taken part in an 11-a-side game - although they lost in the first round to the eventual finalists. Just to show their diversity, most of the boys in the football team joined forces with some of the younger girls in the school |
Rugby,
which started with a series of coaching sessions by Leicester Tigers -
and a mixed Arnesby team entered the Lutterworth Festival and ended up
winning it! As a result, they had the privilege to play in the area finals
at Welford Road, and came a well deserved third. To finish off the spring term, Arnesby took part in a small schools swimming gala at Lutterworth where a brilliant team effort saw them finish runner- up out of nine schools. In the summer term, Arnesby's athletics team finished third in the South Leicester small schools meeting with some excellent individual and team performances. To round off the sporting year, Arnesby entered a mixed team in the Leicestershire Kwik Cricket finals at Grace Road. It was a great experience to play on a proper cricket ground as Arnesby do not have space for cricket - and reaching the semi-finals was another fine achievment. |
