Arnesby May Fayre 29 May 2000

The
May Fayre was held on Bank Holiday Monday 29 May despite heavy rainfall
in the preceeding 3 days. The weather on the day was warm and dry and
overall the event was another great success.
The rain came close to forcing the organising committee to call the Fayre off as
the field used as the car park had large areas of standing water on it on Sunday evening.
However, local farmers, including John Baker at Bruntingthorpe, assisted by
donating 12 bales of hay which volunteers rolled out onto the worst areas.
Almost 1,200 cars used the park on Monday, only slightly fewer than last year, and
none were stuck in any mud.
The Fayre featured a 5 mile cross country run between Arnesby, Shearsby
and Bruntingthorpe. 36 runners took part including many club runners
and 5 villagers. All found the course interesting and demanding and
the run is set to be an annual event Click here for the results for all of the runners
.
Financially, takings were only slightly down on the previous year
at £12,300 (£12,800 last year) Profits however were a record £8,500
(1999: £7,800) due in part to higher receipts from the raffle and
a better return from the plant stall.
This year's event was lead jointly by Mike Brown and Andy Gamble
with assistance from Lisa Welton, Lynn Gibbs, Stuart Randall, Patrick Foster,
Sharon Wittering and Terry Emmony.
Profits were distributed in the same proportion as last year with
lump sums going to the smaller organisations but the bulk of the proceeds
going equally to the Church, Chapel, Village Hall, School and Millennium
fund.
