The event was once again
a great success with record attendances and record profits on behalf
of local organisations. The fine weather helped to encourage large numbers
of visitors and there was an even wider range of things for the whole
family to see and do and plenty of choice of food and drink. Preliminary
figures show that almost £13,000 was taken on the day and profits
were over £8,900.
Live music was performed by The Lizards on the top green, the Wigston
Band gave a concert in front of the village hall and a string quartet
performed in St Peter's church. For the first time we had an MC, DJ
Richie Rich, to inform and entertain visitors during the day.
The third running of the 5 mile cross country race took place and this
year included a separate race for junior runners. Over 50 adults took
part, many from local running clubs and over 20 children ran the course
to Shearsby and back. Click here to see the results of both races.
Other attractions this year included:
- Fancy Dress parade (with a theme of Heros and Heroines)
- Punch and Judy
- Shire horse rides around the village
- Animal displays including Snakes and Reptiles, Rare farm breeds
- Skateboarding display
- Many stalls selling crafts, home produce and home and garden wares
Jacqui Shorrocks, Lisa Welton, Stuart Randall and Terry Emmony.
